Rent Her Closet With StyleLend

Ok, so I love pretty clothes just as much as the next girl. I mean, I have a hard time not hyperventilating when I walk into Intermix (it's a problem). However, I have learned sooooo much in the past few years about fashion and how many levels of bad it actually is. Fashion isn't inherently bad, of course. It's what we do with fashion. Fashion itself is great! People feel good when they look good. And I think most of us are just all-around better people when we feel good about ourselves. But our love for looking pretty has created a giant fashion(able) monster that is stomping all over the world, destroying it.

Our demand for pretty and trendy is exploiting the people manufacturing the clothing as companies are cutting costs like crazy to try to afford the low prices consumers are demanding. Our obsession with the next new thing has us buying items just to wear them once. When we find those (usually not so) old pieces no longer trendy, we throw them out or, thinking we are doing a good thing, donate them to Goodwill. I'm not knocking Goodwill here, but a huge majority of the items we donate to them get shipped to developing countries, undermining their own textile economies and creating all sorts of other issues. Just check out this BBC article about East Africa wanting to ban donated clothing from being imported.

Thankfully, there are people out there taking this bad news as an opportunity to create change, and StyleLend is one of my new favorites! Like I said before, we all want pretty things! Well, why not "borrow" pretty things from a stylish woman's closet?? You get to pay way less money for a designer item than you would if you outright bought it. You get to stay trendy and never get caught in the same look twice. You don't overload your closet and get to the point where you store your shoes in the oven. And it's great for the world on so many levels! Do yourself a favor and check them out. Below are a few of the looks I've gotten from them - perfect for the occasion and then back into someone else's closet they go! I consider that a big win. xx Heide
